The State of Things

•July 14, 2009 • 1 Comment

I haven’t posted anything in a while, so I suppose it is time for an update. It’s a busy summer, as they ofteSheridan, Wyn are. I am still working on the VOID magazine concept and will post more when it gets to a more visual, less conceptual state. I have made some major changes to the concept, and I have to figure out a lot of the technicals.

I am going on a roadtrip across that open desert that lies between Denver and the West Coast. I plan to do a great deal of backroads driving and, more importantly, a lot of photography. It will be three or four of us in my little Hyundai Accent hatchback, driving through Death Valley in the heat of summer. I can’t imagine a more perfect idea. Really, I mean that.

I plan on writing notes throughout the trip and then compiling it all into a short book. It will depend on how interesting the trip turns out to be, but I am looking forward to it.

So, there should be much to come in the next few months!

Some New Photos and an Update

I just bought a Nikon DX (SLR) and went on a walk down Sheridan Blvd taking photos. Other than that, I have been working for Rally and on my VOID magazine concept. I will update you on that once there is interesting progress made. VOID is a huge project and is going to take some time.

Here’s a few photos from my walk…

Atheism Hits Prime Time

On the heels of the latest Family Guy episode, which for better or worse got the whole internet talking about atheism in pop culture, here is Seth McFarlane talking to Adam Carolla about religion.

VOID Magazine

•March 31, 2009 • 1 Comment

Hi all. I have important news. You are interested.

Lately I have been working on a concept for a magazine. Its an expansion upon my college thesis, in which I criticized advertising as it exists today.  I want to create a magazine completely free of advertising, where readers submit the bulk of the content. It will have no political slant and if you convey your thoughts clearly and somewhat respectfully in your submission, it will be included in an issue. Just as important, you can send in responses to anything you want.

People tend to saturate themselves with information and philosophies they already agree with. I believe, the only true way to learn is through conversation and debate. Exposing yourself to new ideas serves to embolden or alter your perspective, and this is a beautiful thing.

Voices, Opinions, Ideas, and Discussion

Voices, Opinions, Ideas, and Discussion

VOID is an acronym for Voices, Opinions, Ideas, and Discussion. Each issue will include as many submissions on as many varied subjects as possible. I am also considering some permanent sections of the magazine; reviews, news on technology and science, etc.

I am in the early stages on this project, but I think it has a lot of potential. I will try to release updates every couple of weeks.

Advertising in Your Underpants

•September 19, 2008 • 1 Comment

Trends. Current style; vogue: the latest fashion.

Right now the trend is propagating memes, guerilla advertising, and viral campaigns. A billboard just won’t do. Why not go further? Let’s hire some graffiti artists to tag buildings with subtle advertisements for cell phones. Billboards are profitable, but if we add speakers we can also broadcast the info to everyone in the general area.

Any Way but McCain

•September 5, 2008 • 1 Comment

Here are two terrifying reasons not to vote for McCain this election year. If you think that religion should influence government, then you completely misunderstand the core value our country was founded on. Read the damned Constitution. And please, don’t bring up the Declaration of Independence. That document was simply a declaration (of our independence). The Constitution is the official document for our system of government.

It is sickening to think we might revert to the same system of governence that we once fought and died to be relieved of. It is scary to think people who hold these zealous ideals can get even a fraction of the US vote.

My Summer

I had a great summer. I graduated from college, and got a job at Rally Software as their designer. I went and stayed in a cabin with my dad and then visited my mom while she was in San Francisco. It is the first time I have seen the West Coast or an efficient public transit system. Then I got free tickets to see the Nader Super Rally for the DNC and ended up on the floor, 4th row.

Here are some assorted photos from fun I have been having. You can view more of my photos on Flickr.
